| In the 16th century an order of nuns buried a medal with the image of Saint Joseph and prayed to help secure land for their convent. When their prayers were answered, this became a ritual that led to Saint Joseph becoming known as the Saint of Real Estate. The association of Saint Joseph with real estate is also linked to his role as the earthly father and protector of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Saint Joseph is often venerated as a model of fatherhood and husbandhood. In the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke, it is mentioned that an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream, informing him of Mary's miraculous conception and instructing him to take her as his wife. Joseph obediently accepted this divine message and cared for Mary and Jesus. Saint Joseph once again had a divine dream when King Herod ordered the massacre of all infants in Bethlehem to kill the baby Jesus. An angel instructed him to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt to escape Herod's wrath. He provided for the family and ensured their safety and well-being during their time in Egypt and upon their return to Nazareth. This role as a loving and protective father figure makes him a natural patron for fathers and those who look to him as a model of fatherhood and family values. |
